Explore the Depths of the Modern FLX003 from Fleux

After 20 years of collecting vintage timepieces, specifically dive watches, Edward wondered how hard it could be to design a watch inspired by the past yet firmly grounded in the present. Two years ago, almost to the day, the initial technical drawings for the FLX001 were first featured on Fleux Watches’ Instagram page. The following spring, drawings for their second model in the debut collection, the FLX002, were revealed. True to Edward’s vision, these were clearly modern timepieces. However, enough vintage-inspired design elements remained to give them that charming je ne sais quoi from yesteryear.

Both models have the same case, which is well proportioned at 38mm in diameter, 47mm from lug to lug, and 14mm thick to the top of the double-domed Hesalite crystal. Upon first glance, the watch’s shape may seem familiar, with its straight lug opening and thin bezel. However, you’ll notice the slightly thinner lugs and polished chamfers upon closer inspection. It’s clear that much thought went into updating this design for the 21st century.

The main differences between the two models are in the dial and bezel treatments. Fleux is introducing a third model to the collection, the FLX003. While it uses the same case, its inspiration is a bit more focused. As a collector of vintage dive watches, Edward, like many of his peers, was fascinated with the Seamaster 300 references from the 1960s and how the design elements changed over the years while remaining the same watch.

The FLX003 is directly inspired by elements from those timepieces. It has an extra-large triangle marker at 12 o’clock, informed by the Seamaster 165.024 Big Triangle, and broad-arrow hands like the ones from the Seamaster CK2913-3. Additionally, it features Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9, along with Super-Luminova C3 “Old Radium” on all the markers, hands, and the lume triangle on the aluminum bezel insert.

The mix of these specific design cues creates something entirely different yet somehow instantly recognizable. It’s a Fleux watch through and through, featuring a “diver down” flag at 6 o’clock, a bidirectional friction bezel, and a signed “diver down” screw-down crown. As with its older siblings, the FLX003 houses the Seiko SII NH-38A movement, which beats at 21,600 beats per hour and has a power reserve of 41 hours—a movement as bulletproof as those Omegas from days gone by. It is water-resistant to 200 meters and comes on a SEAQUAL recycled ocean plastic strap with quick-release spring bars.

The Fleux FLX003 is more than just another vintage-inspired dive watch. It is a fully functional and wearable nod to the Seamaster 300 and its role in military and diving history. Limited to 150 pieces, check out the FLX003 today for $499 USD (includes free worldwide shipping) at the Fleux shop online.
