QUICK RELEASE in partnership with Monbrey Watches

Monbrey Watches Introduces the All-New MB2 Kenkyū

Monbrey Watches may be a relative newcomer to the scene, but that has not stopped the upstart brand from forging its path. Coming off the heels of its first model, the MB1, in 2023, Monbrey is back with the brand new MB2 collection, called Kenkyū (建久). With a variety of dial colors and finishes, this new product line builds on Monbrey’s young catalog by turning to Japanese inspiration.

The Kenkyū era refers to the period when the first shogunate, or military rule, was established in Japan. With it came the samurai and their weaponry and armor, which serves as design cues for these new watches. Monbrey has achieved this in several ways. First up is a distinct mirror polish that emulates Tamahagane, the steel used in Japanese katana swords. In the same spirit of sharpness and precision, the MB2 cases are notably void of curved surfaces in favor of sharp angles and edges that enhance light reflection. Even the crown design has been paid special attention; its shape references the “Boshi”, the tip of a katana.

At its core, the MB2 watches comprises 37.5mm (45mm lug to lug) time-only watches that, depending on dial configuration, are either paired with leather straps or bracelets. They feature sapphire glass, 100 meters of water resistance, and soft iron faraday cages for anti-magnetism. Inside is the Miyota cal.9039, which is regulated to +/- 8 seconds a day. With dial colors ranging from blue, to purple, and green, there is something for every sensibility here. The jewel steel dials sparkle like the stars while the patterned dials resemble the auspicious Bishamon-Kikko pattern famous for its use in samurai armor. Even details like the hour indices have received special treatment: Monbrey’s fine vertical brushing technique allows them to reflect even more light.

With seemingly every detail carefully considered, the Kenyū line offers a compelling value for anyone looking for thoughtfully designed watches that can be both everyday wearers and conversation pieces at once. Pre-orders are available on Monbrey.com, where the pre-sale price will rise from $486 to $549 through December. To order yours or learn more about the MB2 Kenykū, visit Monbrey.com.
