At the core of traditional watchmaking is an enduring sense of romance. Romance of a time gone by but not forgotten. Atlantic has always embraced this spirit. Originally founded in 1888 by Eduard Kummer, Atlantic was trusted to build components for brands like Longines and Certina throughout the early 20th century before putting their own famous sextant logo and name on their own watches. In 2015, Atlantic launched its flagship line, the Worldmaster. Today, the Worldmaster collection represents the brand’s very best in craftsmanship, watchmaking, and luxury. The Atlantic Automatic Moonphase Chronograph is a wonderful expression of true horology in a watch that is timeless in its styling.
The Atlantic Worldmaster Moonphase Chronograph is a Celebration of Classic Complications
Though Atlantic offers an array of wristwatches that span from sporty to modernly minimal, it is the Worldmaster Moonphase Chronograph that most closely resembles the calendar-chronograph watches from the mid 20th century. Each 42mm x 14.9mm stainless steel case is individually numbered and features curvaceous lugs and side profiles with rectangular pushers. The dark blue dial features a raised textured ring connecting the applied indexes and numerals, which, like the hands, are finished in gold. The elegant cursive Atlantic logo at three o’clock is a throwback design cue and fits the classy look of this Worldmaster.
Thanks to a special Valjoux 7751 caliber inside, the dial is straightforward in its layout: On the edge you will find the date readout paired and pointer hand with its red tip. Sub-registers at six, nine, and twelve measure both running seconds and elapsed hours and minutes – and don’t forget that handsome moonphase, of course. Twin apertures up top display the day of the week and month to complete the calendar functionality. Flip the watch over, and you are greeted with an exclusive gold-PVD version of the 7751 with a custom rotor.
In a world that often runs on nostalgia, the Atlantic Worldmaster Automatic Moonphase Chronograph shows that classic design goes a long way when paired with a genuinely interesting movement. Its charming character and reasonable price tag make it a compelling choice for any collector interested in old-school watchmaking. This special Worldmaster is limited to 88 pieces worldwide and comes with a luxury wooden presentation box and certificate. It is priced at 3,350 CHF.
