Great products don’t just appear out of nowhere. They are results of thoughtful and iterative effort, often in ways unseen. They say the devil is in the details, and it’s the details that define the third-generation Aviera, Nezumi Studio’s flagship GMT timepiece. Aviera, from “aviation” and navigera, Swedish for “to navigate”, has undergone some clever nips and tucks and thanks to some new seasonal colorways, it looks better than ever while retaining all the ruggedness and practicality one would expect from a dependable GMT wristwatch.
The Latest Nezumi Aviera is a Refined GMT Watch
On paper, the new Aviera is more evolution than revolution, and that’s a great thing. The watch retains the previous design’s brushed stainless steel 40mm case (47mm lug to lug), but the bezel width has been reduced by 1mm to 39mm, which results in a more balanced, tapered look. The crystal thickness has been increased from 1.55mm to just under 2mm, but this taller, vintage-inspired domed look is offset by a reduction in the case thickness from 12 to only 11.35mm. In all, total thickness has slimmed to 13.3mm. This transfer of visual – and literal – weight from case to crystal results in a more svelte wearing experience and refined case design. Rest assured as water resistance remains a stout 200m.
The Aviera remains a “true” (or flyer) GMT, a watch whose primary hour hand can be set independently thanks to the caliber 9075 from Miyota. A groundbreaking movement when it was first released, the 9075 is the reason Nezumi Studios is able to realize its vision for an affordable traveler watch with top-tier GMT functionality. The movement beats at 28,800 bph, offers a 42 hour power reserve, and is automatically wound. Dial-side, the Aviera features bold hour and minute hands paired with a skeletonized GMT hand. Legibility is the priority here, with large applied Arabic numerals at every cardinal hour and hashes all around. The newly refined steel fixed bezel provides 24-hour markings.
Assembled in Germany, the Nezumi Aviera comes in a variety of configurations. The black dial remains part of the core collection, and a couple new versions are here. A DLC black case (Reference AA3.133) and white all-lumed dial (Reference AA3.302) are seasonal offerings that are limited to only 300 units apiece. Nezumi’s commitment to the Aviera is evident; in this latest iteration, the watch represents the maturity of a product that, in its third generation, is more compelling than ever.
