zeruzzi is in no hurry with its first watch; it wants to get it right. The forward-thinking Norwegian brand, founded in 2023 by Daniel Serussi, is proud to present its foray into the market, FAZE 1. The Swiss-made watch’s striking design was originally conceived as a scribble on the back of a manual and, after more than a few cycles of trial and error, has found its final form. A closer look reveals that FAZE 1 is as much a commentary on the human condition as it is on design.
The zeruzzi FAZE 1 Makes us Ponder our Condition
At a glance, it is permissible to consider FAZE 1’s shape an amorphous one à la Cartier Crash. In fact, Kevin O’Leary himself wore a FAZE 1 with a Crash. But a more discerning eye reveals its true shape: the profile of a human head. This (literal) watch head is made of stainless steel, measures 36mm x 25mm, and is only 7.1mm thin. A sapphire glass protects the silver dial, and the watch is paired with a 12mm full grain calf leather strap and accompanying butterfly clasp. And the brains inside? A 5-jewel ETA E01.001 movement that guarantees over 5 years of battery life. But enough of the specs – what does it all mean?
zeruzzi’s stated intent with FAZE 1 is to consider the idea that time exists not only in the external but on the inside of each and every one of us. Indeed, we traverse this “inner time” through our thoughts and memories and are indelibly shaped by them. This thought-provoking idea extends even to the watch’s packaging: each timepiece comes in a special aluminum-cast box that resembles a full human face. Watch and box come together to form a cohesive experience that feels well thought-out and genuinely design-forward.
FAZE 1 underscores zeruzzi’s expressed vision that its watches be defined by honesty rather than heritage. It’s a refreshing take, one that allows these watches to be worn not primarily “to impress, but to express”. If this debut is a clue into zeruzzi’s future releases, the future looks bright (and aluminum). FAZE 1 will be available in a limited order window in December, but in the meantime, learn more about it in all of its sculptural glory at zeruzzi.com.
