The Toughest Race On Earth Requires A Tough Watch: G-Shock Links Up With Team Land Cruiser For Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A

Since its inaugural season in 1979, the Dakar Rally has earned a bit of a reputation for being one of the toughest terrain races known to man. In a span of two weeks, each team will have traveled over 8,000 kilometers in the unforgiving conditions of the Saudi Arabian desert. Naturally, a G-Shock would be the watch of choice for such an event that undoubtedly challenges the endurance and toughness of each driver and their vehicle. And what better G-Shock to choose from than the most rugged of them all? In yet another collaboration with Team Land Cruiser (fourth one and counting), G-Shock has introduced the Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A. With its countless features and robust nature, this is a perfect watch for any adventure, no matter the terrain, whether in the open ocean, on top of a mountain or off-road in one of the most challenging environments. Let’s take a closer look at the G-Shock Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A.

The G-Shock Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A is built with performance in mind, much like the fully loaded Toyota Land Cruiser 200 rally car it draws inspiration from. Despite the burly profile the Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A should feel lightweight on wrist thanks to the forged carbon bezel and core guard structure case. The watch also comes equipped with G-Shock’s ‘Mud Resistant’ technology and sports a new button construction that further eliminates any type of loose debris attempting to penetrate the case structure. The GWG2000TLC1A sports a charcoal gray base color with blue and red accents throughout the dial, as well as a ‘mud splatter’ design layered on the bezel and band.

G-Shock is known for all of their features and functions that come packaged into a tough watch, and the G-Shock Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A is no different. The Mudmaster is rigged with 200 meters of WR, Tough Solar tech, Multi-Band 6 Atomic timekeeping, a digital compass and the ability to monitor barometric pressure, altitude and temperature; all of which are useful data to a driver trekking through the barron deserts of Saudi Arabia or for us regular guys and gals participating in more pedestrian activities such as staying ahead of schedule during a jam packed Saturday filled with errands (sometimes it’s more fun to push buttons as opposed to fiddling with a bezel especially when playing the waiting game for my significant other).

The G-Shock Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A looks as if it will wear larger than your typical wrist watch. Although G-Shock claims that the refined Mudmaster has a “slim profile”, it’s 16.1mm height measurement may come off as the opposite, and when paired with its 61.2mm case width and 54.4mm lug to lug, the Mudmaster will definitely not disappear when it’s on wrist. And that’s okay. G-Shocks are made a certain way, to be capable of doing certain things. And if that means the broad case is more susceptible to getting knocked around, I think that’s totally fine. It’s purposeful and I mean that’s what the carbon bezel and case are for, right?

This watch most certainly caters to the fans of G-Shock, Team Land Cruiser and the Dakar Rally. After finishing in 51st place and 52nd place overall in the 2022 Dakar Rally, Toyota Auto Body has its sights set on 2023, and who knows, maybe we might see G-Shock and team TLC link up again for another collaborative piece.

The G-Shock Mudmaster GWG2000TLC1A Toyota Land Cruiser collaboration will retail for $850. G-Shock
