When it comes to shopping for vintage watches on eBay, it can be a gold mine, and it can also be a minefield. Our very own Christoph McNeill (you all might know him as Instagram’s @VintageDiver) wrote a must-read, common sense guide to buying vintage watches on eBay (check out Part 1 and Part 2). Today, we have another installment of eBay Finds, where Christoph highlights some great, affordable vintage gems looking for a new home. Happy hunting!
Listing: Alsta Nautoscaph 999 Feet Diver with Spiedel Mach 1 Band
Here’s a great find for all the vintage dive watch lovers out there—a 1960s Alsta Nautoscaph diver in absolutely excellent condition! With an original depth rating of 999 feet and a screw down crown, this was made to be a serious tool diver’s watch back in the day. It has a beautiful dial with great patina and sharp, lume filled hands. It also comes with an awesome period-correct Speidel band to boot. Powering the watch is a Swiss-made Felsa 4007N, a 17-jewel automatic mechanical caliber.
This one is close to the Alsta dive watch Richard Dreyfus famously wore in Jaws, but it’s not the same model. Nevertheless, this is a cool piece and it’s an auction worth keeping an eye on.
