Introducing the Tutima Grand Flieger Airport Series

Founded in the 1920’s, Tutima is a brand with some serious heritage in watchmaking. Made in Glashütte, Germany, their watches exude a sense of quality that the watchmaking city of Glashütte is known for. Today, we’re talking about a pair of new Flieger-inspired watches that look as good as they perform. The Grand Flieger Airport series is composed of two watches —a chronograph and a classic three hander.

Both watches share the same flieger DNA, with a classic brushed 43mm stainless steel case. Both the classic three hander and the chronograph are rated to 200m, which is a nice touch — especially in a pilot watch design. Both watches feature a bi-directional rotating bezel with a red indicator mark at 12 for enhanced legibility. Inside the bezel, there’s a premium ceramic insert that gives the watches a more modern appearance. You’ll find sapphire crystals covering both the dial and movement on the case back that are treated with an anti-reflective coating to maintain optimal legibility. The watches are available with either a deep navy blue or handsome military green dégradé dial that starts off lighter in the middle and transitions to the darkest representation of the base color around the edges. You can choose from either color in both the chronograph and three hand version.

Inside each watch, there’s a Tutima Caliber 3xx inside. The three hander features the Caliber 330, which is essentially an ETA 2836 with a few added visual flairs. Inside the chronograph, there’s the Caliber 310, which is based on ETA’s Valjoux 7750 that features a central seconds counter, and hours, running seconds, and 30 minutes at 6, 9, and 12, respectively. Both watches share a day/date display which is rendered in black text on a white dial. Since there are other white elements on the dial, the day/date display blends in well with the rest of the features.

Both the chronograph and the standard model ship on a rugged, textured fabric strap with a steel deployant-style clasp to keep the watch fastened securely to your wrist. A bracelet is also offered on each model, should you desire. If you’re looking for a handsome watch that blends styles from both the past and present, Tutima’s Grand Flieger Airport series is definitely worth a look. The three hand version starts at $2,500, while the chronograph comes in a bit higher at $3,900. The bracelet adds $400 to the price of each.
