QUICK RELEASE in partnership with Camp Watches

The Camp Watches Fieldtimer 39mm is Pure LA Goodness

An undeniable part of the allure of wristwatches is their ability to convey something about both their creators and wearers. Often, a watch’s design decisions can tell quite the story. Camp Watches, headed by career industrial designer Justin Jakobson, is an unapologetic love letter to the city of Los Angeles, and to that end, the California-based brand has released a new collection, the Fieldtimer 39mm. Even at a glance, it’s easy to see how fun and thoughtful this watch is and how it perfectly captures the spirit of LA.

On paper, the Fieldtimer 39mm is what its name suggests: a 39mm wide field-style watch. But it’s clear that this isn’t your ordinary outdoor beater. The Fieldtimer comes in three configurations, each with its own unique deep polished lacquer dials. The process by which these special dials are manufactured is fascinating; it takes fifteen layers of stove enamelled lacquer to create, and the result is a delightful effect where the numerals and markers seem to float on the dial. The red, blue, and light green dials each feature unique typefaces with nods to various automotive, historical, and cultural influences of Southern California. For example, the light green Fieldtimer’s crosshairs dial, font, and seconds hand center cap are all inspired by a vintage BMW that Jakobson restored and repainted himself.

Continuing to the rest of the watch, we are welcomed with interesting details like the curved side case, subtle exposed lugs for easy strap changes, retro-inspired boxed sapphire crystals, and multiple strap options (including a whimsical Bonklip style bracelet). Speaking of which, even the pin buckle has received special attention. Thanks to state-of-the-art metal injection molding methods, the Camp logo has been essentially printed with steel powder through this unique additive process. Inside the Fieldtimer 39mm is the tried and true Sellita SW210 with a fully customized train wheel bridge. This 18-jewel caliber beats at 4Hz with a power reserve of over 42 hours.

The Fieldtimer 39mm is a timepiece so effortless in its aesthetic and vibe that it naturally lends itself to being an everyday watch. For the carefree, fun-loving collector, it brings a touch of Hollywood magic no matter where you are. The Fieldtimer 39mm is priced at $900 and is limited to 100 pieces in each configuration.
