Stream Bulova’s New Documentary

Last fall, ahead of Bulova’s 150th anniversary,
the brand premiered America Telling Time, a documentary charting their incredible history. The film, directed by Michael Culyba, uses a series of interviews with watch industry professionals to paint an all encompassing picture of the brand, highlighting many of Bulova’s technical and design advancements along the way. Until now, the film has been screening on a limited basis (including for a packed house at the recent Windup Watch Fair in Dallas), but as of this week, anyone can watch it in the comfort of their own home on Amazon’s streaming service. It’s a must see for watch enthusiasts, particularly if you have an interest in watchmaking history and Bulova’s continued cultural impact.

If you’d prefer an in-theater experience and happen to be going to the Windup Watch Fair San Francisco, join us on Friday, May 2nd for a free screening of this film on the big screen! Bulova will be treating folks to this experience at The Alamo Drafthouse in the Mission District. Click here to RSVP to Bulova’s upcoming screening!

Work Sharp’s New Knife: The RMX

Whether you’re using a knife to break down boxes or prepare a five course meal,   that knife will eventually dull on you and require sharpening; a problem that the team at Work Sharp has been tackling for over 50 years.  With this experience, they’re changing things up making their own knife. At this point, we’ve only seen a teaser post on Instagram, but it has some of our team pretty excited already. From what can be seen in the post, it appears that their knife, named the RMX,  will feature a satin finished blade, black metal handles (likely aluminum), and have a gold pivot. Additionally, it appears that the RMX may feature an integral handle with a button lock mechanism. While the RMX is said to be “a few months out”, we hope that Work Sharp shares more details soon!

Winter Is Coming, and It Brought Back the Dire Wolf

After news broke on April 7th that Colossal Bioscience had successfully brought the Dire Wolf back from extinction, many fans of the show began to wonder if the project was connected to author George R. R. Martin’s “Thrones” series, or the popular HBO adaptation “Game of Thrones”. Much to the delight of fans, George penned an entry on his “Not a Blog” confirming that he was in fact involved, and detailed some of his personal experiences with the (at the time) extinct canine, how it has effected the fictional lands of Westeros, and even included a picture of him holding one of the Direwolf pups.

Streaming Soon: Grassland

You might remember that last year, Zach Kazan hosted a special edition of Time on Screen and spoke with Quincy Isaiah, one of the stars of Grassland, and Phil Pirkovic, Director of Brand at Shinola. Quincy helped to design a watch that was released in conjunction with Grassland, the 420 Grassland Runwell. The film explores the failures of the criminal justice system by focusing on one family in suburban New Jersey, and the draconian cannabis laws impacting their lives and the lives of those in their community. Well, Grassland is finally about to be available to a wider audience. It’s available for pre-order right now through Apple TV, and will also be available via Roku, Amazon, and other platforms beginning on April 18. Check out the trailer below.
